Leo H. Baker, 87

Malta-Leo H. Baker, 87, formerly of Defreestville, died Sunday, February 26, 2006 at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late August Baker and Nina (Quandt) Baker and husband for 63 years of Frances E. Hidley Baker.

He had resided in Defreestville from 1950-1997 and attended Troy High School.

Mr. Baker was supervisor of the Guilderland Rifle Range for the Division of Military Naval Affairs for 8 years retiring in 1985. He was a zymergist, beer-maker, for Fitzgerald and Shaeffer Breweries and himself. Out of high school, he went to work for his father in his ice business.

He was president of the Defreestville Fire Company, a member of the North Greenbush Zoning Board, a volunteer with Samaritan Hospital, and a very active communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Troy, acting as a member of the Vestry and Head Usher for many years. He was a patron of Troy Chromatics Concerts for many years.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, James S. Baker (Deborah) of Malta and Thomas L. Baker (Janet) of Jamesville, NY; two grandchildren, James and John Baker and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald J. Baker and a sister, Shirley Stasack.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 1PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church State and Third Streets Troy where the Burial Office will be read by the Rev. Michael Gorchov, Rector.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Wednesday from 4-7 pm.

Interment Evergreen Cemetery, in Wynantskill.
