East Greenbush - Howard R. VanDenburg, 82, of North Schodack Road died Sunday, September 14, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in East Greenbush, he was son of the late Raymond J. VanDenburg and Esther Sliter VanDenburg and husband of the late Lillian M. Beach VanDenburg. He had resided in the East Greenbush area all his life and was a 1951 graduate of Columbia High School.
Mr. VanDenburg was a parts mechanic for Southworth Milton in Menands for 45 years retiring in 1995. He retired after 40 years with the Local 106 Operating Engineers.
He enjoyed gardening, animals, planes and trains. Many years ago he raced at the old Burden Lake Race Track and was a member of the Best Luther Fire Company Auxiliary.
Survivors include a daughter, Debra Doody, East Greenbush; a son, Ronald VanDenburg (Toni), Wynantskill; his grandchildren, Rebecca (Michael) Flick and Joseph, Zachary, Alana and Jeramy VanDenburg; his great grandchildren, Katelynn, Peter and Ruthann Flick and several nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Janice Brunetto and Sandra V. VanDenburg and a brother, Lloyd VanDenburg.
Relatives and friends may call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 4392 Route 150, West Sand Lake on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 from 4-7 PM.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 AM at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery East Schodack.
