Nassau - Eleanor F. Karner Woltjen, 89, of Route 20, died Thursday, September 25, 2014, at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness.
She was daughter of the late Arthur Karner and Lula Bonesteel Karner and fiance to James Fordley, Nassau . Born, raised and educated in Troy for 25 years before moving to Rensselaer where she lived for 45 years, and had resided in Nassau for the past 3 years.
Eleanor was a homemaker, who lovingly opened her home to care for and raise 60 foster children.
She was active in 4-H, the Salvation Army and a Sunday school teacher. She was a dedicated homemaker and mother with a big heart, always finding ways to give to others. She enjoyed arts and crafts, dancing, music and taking trips.
Survivors in addition to her fiance, include her 6 children, Patricia Kendall, Valatie, Darlene McCarty, Green Island, Martha Woodworth, Glenmont, John (Justine Bleau) Truesell, Waterford, Thomas Woltjen, Troy and Danny Myers, Schenectady; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her former husband, Walter Woltjen and her sisters, Vera and Dorothy Karner.
Relatives and friends may call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 4392NY150 West Sand Lake on Monday from 3:30 - 5 PM prior to the funeral home service at 5 PM.
Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery West Sand Lake.
