West Sand Lake - Doris L. Gardner Shaver, 95, of Shaver Road died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Samaritan Hospital.
Born in Nassau, she was daughter of the late Arnold P. Gardner and Beatrice Cummings Gardner and wife of the late Quentin E. Shaver. She was raised in Nassau, where she resided until she married in 1943, moving to Shaver Road in West Sand Lake and was a graduate of Averill Park High School.
Mrs. Shaver was employed as a bus driver for BOCES in Rensselaer County for 24 years retiring in 1980.
She was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church in West Sand Lake, a choir member, a member and secretary of the 3M's Club and the Women's Society as well as a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. Doris was a charter member of the West Sand Lake Fire Company, a member of the Schodack Seniors and Vice President in 2003 and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of the Eastern Star East Greenbush, the Sand Lake Horse Thieves, a member of the Rebekah's Interlocken Lodge #92 and was past state officer of the Rebekah’s.
Survivors include her children, Blaine E. (Patricia) Shaver, West Sand Lake, Sandra Stevens, Brunswick, Nancy Ware, Westmere, Quinette (Andrew) Dructor, West Sand Lake and Helen Rescott, West Sand Lake; a sister, Phyllis Kimmey, West Sand Lake; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Mildred Trombley, Lois Fitzgerald, Evelyn Hall and Harold Gardner.
Relatives and friends may call at the Salem United Methodist Church Shaver Road West Sand Lake on Saturday from 9-11AM with a funeral service to follow at 11AM with Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Bush, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery West Sand Lake.
