William M. Burke, 90

Troy - William M. Burke, 90, of Tibbits Avenue and formerly of Sugar Hill Apartments Brunswick died Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Eddy Heritage House Nursing Center after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Charles J. Burke and Mary Birmingham Burke and husband of the late Eileen Reeves Burke. He had resided in Troy area all his life and attended Haskell School, Troy, was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School class of1939 and attended Siena College until 1941, returning there in 1946 and graduating in 1948 with a Bachelor's degree.

He worked at Behr Manning Company, Watervliet until 1941, for a public accounting firm until 1950 and in 1950 he attended Albany Law School, graduating in 1953 with his law degree. He was admitted to the Bar in 1954 and practiced Law until 1970. Bill then worked as Senior Attorney for the NYS Department of Health until 1986, at which time he retired from State and went back into private practice, retiring in 1991.

Mr. Burke served during WWII in the Army Air Corp from January 1942 to 1945 and at the time of his honorable discharge he was certified as a B-29 co-pilot.

Survivors include a daughter, Marcia A. (Gary) Senecal, Ocala, FL; five sons, W. Michael (Lori) Burke, Lake George, Peter F. (Lori) Burke, Sacramento, CA, David C. Burke, Hoosick, Anthony J. (Kelly) Burke, Troy and Daniel R. Burke, Apalachicola, FL ; a sister - Rita B. Welles, Menands; dear friend and caregiver, Marianne Nelligan, Brunswick and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Jane Gunther and Lenore Coleman.

A private family graveside service will be held at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville.
