John W. Pettinger

October 17, 1939 ~ October 15, 2015 (age 75) 75 Years Old

North Greenbush – John W. Pettinger, 75, of Eastwyck Circle and formerly of River Isles Bradenton, FL passed away October 15, 2015 at his residence after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. 

Born in Troy, NY, his was the son of the late Stanley Pettinger and Helen Pettinger and husband of 55 years of the late Sandra J. Pettinger. He had resided in Troy for 55 years and in Florida for 20 years, and was a 1957 graduate of Troy High School.

John was employed by Marine Midland Bank in Troy soon after graduating high school, and continued working there his entire career until retiring as a Vice President. He was a member, Elder and adviser of the Senior Youth Group of First United Presbyterian Church of Troy. John was a fan of stock car racing and enjoyed taking care of exotic birds.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah H. Safford, Valley Falls; three sons, Mark S. Pettinger, Schenectady and Scott W. (Mary) Pettinger, Troy and Craig J (Tianna) Pettinger, East Greenbush; and six grandchildren, Melissa and Krista Safford, Taylor and Ryan Pettinger, and Marianna and Ellieanna Pettinger. The Pettinger family would like to thank The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County for all their care and support.

Relatives and friends may call at the Gardner Earl Chapel, 186 Oakwood Ave., Troy on Tuesday from 10-11AM with a service to follow at 11AM  with Rev. Gusti Linnea Newquist, officiating. Inurnment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. 

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of John Pettinger to the Charity of ones choice.
