Thomas Edward Stead, 67

East Greenbush - Thomas Edward Stead, 67, long time resident of Windham and East Greenbush, NY, died Saturday, May 10,2008 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Edward and Myrtle Stead.

He was born May 16, 1940 in Catskill. He graduated from Windham high school and earned his Masters at Oneonta State. He married his high school sweetheart, the former Susanne McFarland on Aug. 23, 1958.

Thomas was a career educator. A sixth grade teacher and coach at Windham and later Dean of Students at Berlin C.S.

Tom loved sports having been an outstanding athlete in high school and later a soccer and baseball stand out at Oneonta State. He was an avid outdoorsman having achieved Eagle Scout status as a teenager.

He was a member of numerous affiliations including Chamber of Commerce, Knights of the Road, volunteer fireman and Windham Little League and Babe Ruth.

Later in life he dearly enjoyed his 8 grandchildren, watching their success in both academics and athletics.

Surviving are his wife, Susanne McFarland; his children, William Stead and wife Susan French of Saratoga, Gail Stead Kinzelmann and husband John Kinzelmann of Castleton and Debra and John Bunce of Windham; his brothers, Dennis, James and Larry Stead; his sister, Sharon and his grandchildren, Thomas, Steven, Tyler, Alex, Michael, Connor, Alexa and Calvin.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1:00 PM at Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy with Rev. Karyl Hopp, Pastor of Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 11AM- 1PM prior to the service.

Interment will be in Holy Sepluchre Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in memory of Thomas E. Stead to the Alzheimer's Association Capital District Chapter 85 Watervliet Avenue Albany, NY 12106.
