Lawrence J. Knauer

Wynantskill - Lawrence J. Knauer, born September 25, 1922, of  Spring Avenue Extension died Friday, October 02, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
 
Born in Brunswick on the family farm, he was son of the late Nicholas Knauer and Anna Heinike Knauer and husband for 67 years of Dorothy Strope Knauer. He resided in the Troy area all his life and was educated in Troy Schools. 
 
Larry began working at a young age on the family farm and was later employed by General Electric where he worked for 18 years retiring in 1988.
 
He was a long time communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Troy. Larry enjoyed motorcycling, farming and gardening; he was extremely proud of his strawberries. He loved sharing good food and drink with good friends and family.    
 
Survivors in addition to his wife, include his children, Wendy (John) Nolan, Wynantskill, Susan (Walter) Mateer, Averill Park, Virginia Larsen, Durango, CO,  Lawrence (Catherine) Knauer Jr., Wynantskill, Dennis (Rosemarie) Knauer, Wynantskill, Nancy Osborne, Wynantskill,  Mark Knauer, Grafton;his grandchildren, Stephanie (Daniel) Ziobroski, Melissa (Justin) Wanstreet,  Dr. Scott (Dr.Kristin) Mateer, Ashley (Adam) Morales, William Larsen, Christine Larsen, Katherine (Michael) Haynes, Philip Knauer, Jessica (Kate) Smith, Nicholas Knauer, Elizabeth Knauer, Sara (Bryan) Julian; 9 great grandchildren;  his sister, Cecilia Allen, California; and  several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Gail Laplante; and his siblings, Theresa Cote, Helen Willbrandt, Henry,  Anna, and Nicholas Knauer.
 
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Monday, October 05, 2015 from 10AM - 12PM prior to the service at 12noon with Rev. James J. Vaughan, officiating.
 
Interment will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery Troy.
 
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Lawrence J. Knauer to The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County 295 Valley View Boulevard Rensselaer, NY 12144.
