Gordon L. Kirkland, 91

Latham Gordon L. Kirkland, 91, of Surrey Hill Drive, died Wednesday at Hallmark Nursing Centre Troy, after a brief illness.

Born in Sayre, PA he was son of the late James and Bertha Moore Kirkland and husband of the late Theodora H. 'Teddie' Hardenbrook Kirkland. He had resided in Troy where he lived on Brunswick Road for many years prior to moving to Latham 18 years ago. He was a graduate of Sayre High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Mr. Kirkland was employed in sales at the former Killip Commercial Laundry for 25 years. He later worked for 30 years until November of 2002 for DeVito's Pharmacy in Troy, which is now Eckerd Drug.

Mr. Kirkland was very active in Masonic circles. He was a member of Apollo-King Solomon's Masonic Lodge, Oriental Shrine, Scottish Rite Bodies, Troy Patrol, Chairman of the Jewelry Committee for many years. He also received the Meritorious Service Award and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member, Deacon and Elder of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church and later at the Reformed Church of the Boght for many years and was a member of the Railroad Club.

Survivors include his daughter, Kay Schmidt (Bruce) of St. Louis, MO; two grandchildren, Stephen Gordon Kirkland of Charlottesville, VA and David Kirkland Schmidt of St. Louis; a daughter-in-law, Carol Kirkland of Shippensburg, PA; his nieces and nephews, Marjorie Kirkland Deacon of Averill Park, Barbara Kirkland of NYC, George Kirkland Jr. of Sarasota, FL, David Hardenbrook of Hartford, CT and Carol Steinhibler of Orlando, FL and several grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Dr. Gordon L. Kirkland Jr.; three sisters Grace, Margaret and Gertrude and two brothers George Kirkland and Donald.

Funeral service will be held next Saturday January 25th at 10:00AM from Reformed Church of the Boght 583 Boght Road Cohoes with Rev. David Schalekamp, Pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenues in Troy on Friday January 24th from 3-7pm. Interment Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.
