Edith M. (Thornton) Fleming, 72

Troy - Edith M. (Thornton) Fleming, 72, of Federal Street Troy and formerly of Averill Park passed away peacefully, losing her long battle with health issues and associated complications, Wednesday evening, November 24, 2010, at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Born in Fort Ticonderoga, she was daughter of the late Charles Thornton and Beatrice Thornton and was preceeded in death by her fiancé, Jerry Castle in 2003. She had resided in Averill Park most of her life.

Edith retired as a bus driver for the Averill Park School District, and also drove bus for the Okaloosa County School District in Niceville, Florida for a period of time.

She was a member of the West Sand Lake Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary Post 1489 Wynantskill, International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 72 and the AARP.

She was a loving, caring, friend to many. She loved the chidren who rode her school buses, and considered each as an extension of her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Theresa Y. Perrier, and aquaintence James McFerran, Troy; her son, John R. Makar, and his wife Amornrat Makar, Fort Walton Beach, FL; her sister, Margaret Ballon, and brother-in-law Robert Ballon, Niceville, FL; her brother, Arthur R. Thornton, Crestview,FL; her grandchildren, Jade Basta, Thorn Burnham, John A. Makar, Robert R. Makar, Louis, Timpika, and Tulika Panichjaroen, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by three brothers, Ronald, Kenneth, Richard and a sister, Gerry.

Funeral service Tuesday at 7 PM at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake with Rev. John Provost , officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 PM. Interment Evergreen Cemetery Wynantskill.
