Yvonne B. (Bragg) Sternberg

Wynantskill - Yvonne B. Sternberg passed away on Saturday, February 6, after a brief illness.  During the pandemic of 1918, Yvonne was born in Thetford, VT to Sherman and Helen Bragg.  Her mother was to succumb to that virus within two years and Yvonne was raised completely and with much love by her maternal grandmother, Minnie Chamberlin. 

Schooled at Thetford Academy and Lyndon State Teacher College, receiving a degree in 1938, she taught at small Vermont schools through 1942 until she joined the Navy during WWII.  In 1946, she married Leonard Sternberg at the Methodist Church in Greensboro Bend, VT.  After living in nearby St. Johnsbury they moved to Northfield, MA and then to Troy in 1951 living in Albia until 1956, then purchasing a small home in Wynantskill which she loved and lived in for 60 years.  A special measure of thanks to the staff of the Loudonville Assisted Living Facility, where she spent her final years in safety and comfort.  One of her joys, besides family, was belonging to the Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was also Church Treasurer for over 25 years.

Predeceased by her husband in 1994, survivors include a son, William (Tina) Sternberg of Troy, a daughter Susan (Craig) Phyfe of Shrewsbury, MA, four grandchildren Lisa (Craig) Sternberg Williams, Christopher Sternberg both of North Greenbush, Jonathan (Ann) Phyfe of Barrie, VT and David (Kim) Phyfe of Long Island, NY, as well as four great grandchildren, Andy, Lily and Dylan Williams and James Phyfe.

Due to Covid, services will be private with a memorial service planned for a future date. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Colonie. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be given to Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church, 520 Pawling Ave, Troy, NY 12180.
