Halfmoon - Wyn Brooks Braun, of Halfmoon, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to family and community. Born in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Julius E. and Gloria A. Braun, and was predeceased by his beloved siblings, Jay L. Braun, and Leslie G. Braun.
Wyn grew up in Troy and pursued higher education at Bryant University, later continuing studies at Clarkson and Cornell. His lifelong love of learning helped shape a successful career in the energy industry that spanned decades.
He shared 59 loving years with his high school sweetheart, Christine (Tina) Wilson. Together, they raised two sons: Brian Terry Braun (S. Kara Eaton) of Hamburg, NY, and the late Timothy B. Braun, who remained close to Wyn’s heart every day. He was endlessly proud of his family and loved sharing stories of Brian’s achievements.
As a grandfather, Wyn’s greatest joy was cheering on his grandsons—Max Julius Braun (New York, NY), Joel Brooks Braun (Troy, NY), and Jacob Richard Braun (Chicago, IL)—at their sporting events and spending time with them. He also cherished his extended family, including Gina Couture (fiancé Lane Zugalla) of Troy, NY, especially during the holidays.
Wyn built a distinguished career with Niagara Mohawk, now National Grid, ultimately retiring as Director of the Eastern Regional Control Center. Even in retirement, his passion for the industry led him to roles with Northeast Public Power and later as an instructor with National Grid, mentoring the next generation. He retired fully in 2016.
Dedicated to service, Wyn volunteered for NY Cystic Fibrosis and the NY State Special Olympics, chairing the Albany County Games in the early 1990s. His commitment was honored with the nation’s highest private citizen’s award for volunteerism, presented by President Ronald Reagan - an honor he accepted with characteristic humility.
In retirement, Wyn embraced the simple pleasures of life—time with loved ones, helping neighbors, and enjoying tennis, golf, football, and community service. Always ready with a helping hand, he embodied generosity, integrity, and kindness.
A Wyn’s request there will be no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family invites you to honor Wyn’s memory in your own way. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Church, PO Box 868, Troy, NY 12181, or the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY 12204.
Wyn will be deeply missed, but his love and legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
