Troy - William O. Hammond, Sr. , 86, died Monday, August 18, 2025, at his residence after a brief illness.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late Henry J. Hammond Sr. and Alice Hettie Landfear Hammond and husband for 50 years of Ruth Yager Hammond. He was raised in Poestenkill and resided in Troy most of his life. He attended Averill Park High School.
Bill was a bus driver for CDTA for 20 years, retiring in 2001.
He loved playing golf and was a veteran of the Army National Guard from 1957-1960.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, William O. (Kitty) Hammond, Jr., San Anselmo, CA, Leslie Hammond Heath, Wynantskill, Robert (Brooke) Ducharme, West Sand Lake, John Ducharme, Troy and David (Melissa) Ducharme, Troy; his grandchildren, Theo, Sophie and Alivia, Amber Heath, Amanda, Christian, Carolyn, Anthony, Mason and Owen Ducharme and Finn and Beck Weldon and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry “Hank” J. Hammond, Jr. and a sister, Susan A. Santerre.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 10AM-12 Noon with a service to follow at Noon.
Interment will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery Troy.
