Niskayuna - William Alan “Al” Wallace, 89, died Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Teresian House Albany after a brief illness.
Born in Albany, he was son of the late William Edward Wallace and Clair Mae Chamberlain Wallace and husband of Patricia Kern Herman for the past 7 years and the late Emma Jean Horton Wallace. He was raised in Albany and resided in Averill Park since 1965 and was a graduate of Columbia High School, earned his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and his PhD from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1965.
Alan was an Instructor for the School of Management at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute since 1964 until his retirement in 2022.
He was a Navy veteran from 1957- 60.
Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons, Norris Wallace, Schenectady, William E. Wallace II, Albany and Roland F. Wallace, Troy and a grandson, William Andrew Wallace, Brooklyn. His extended family includes his stepchildren, Charles Herman, Victor (Suzanne) Herman and Joseph (Elizabeth) Herman; his step grandchildren, Sophia Herman, Alessandra (James) Black, Amanda (Michael) Snellings and Santiago and Christopher Herman and a step great grandson, William Snellings. He was predeceased by a son, Robert Kyle Wallace.
Relatives and friends may call at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Parish 2216 Rosa Rd Schenectady on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 9-10 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 AM by Rev. Robert Longobucco, Pastor.
Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery Schenectady.
