Brunswick - William J. Fortin, 80, died March 10, 2022 at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn Albany, after a long illness.
Born in Cohoes, he was son of the late Louis A. Fortin and Cecile Surprenant Fortin and husband for 13 years of Crystal Fortin. Raised in Cohoes, he resided in Troy most of his life, attended Vincentian Institute and was a graduate of Keveny Memorial Academy. He was also a graduate of Royal Academy in Schenectady in 1961 for barber school.
Bill worked as a barber for 60 years, first for Caruso Salon in downtown Troy and in the Hendrick Hudson Hotel. He then opened his own shop on Walker Avenue in Troy and later on Pawling Avenue for the past 26 years.
He enjoyed paddle boarding with his dog Louceil.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, Tara M. (Matt) Hepp, Schenectady, Tia J. Watson, Florida, Paul Fortin, Troy, Peter Fortin, Troy and Phil Fortin, Corinth; his grandchildren, Kaya M. Pelton, Veda (Adam) Schmidt and Mark Christopher (Janine) Pelton and Adam Matthew Hepp; his great grandsons, Logan Alexander Schmidt and Connor Pelton Schmidt and two brothers, Louis P. (Marilyn) Fortin, Rensselaer and Ronald J. (Fran) Fortin, Cohoes. He was predeceased by his first wife, Maureen Wachter Fortin.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy on Wednesday, March16, 2022 from 4-6PM with a funeral service at 6PM.
