West Sand Lake -William T. Feldhusen, 70, beloved husband, loving father, friend to all wild things and places, died at his home after a short fierce battle with cancer.
Born and raised in the Bronx, he was the son of the late William F. Feldhusen and Dorothy Smith Feldhusen. After graduating from Stony Brook University Bill entered on a career of public service working to make peoples' lives safer and better, from summer lunch programs in Brooklyn to inspecting public housing for HUD and being a park ranger in Texas. He found his dream job as an Urban Park Ranger in Manhattan and the Bronx introducing urban kids and families to the natural world.
He met his future wife Naomi Lloyd on a fullmoon bird walk. They married in 1990 and had two children, Lillian Lloyd Feldhusen and Randall Peter Feldhusen. Shortly after their marriage Bill and Naomi moved to Rensselaer County when Bill took a job with NYS Department of State protecting tidal waterways. His particular cause was ensuring public access to the waterfront, often conflicting with developers. Bill and Naomi were married 35 years. He conveyed his love of the outdoors to all who knew him, particularly his children.
At Bill's request, there will be no memorial service. To remember him at his happiest, take a long walk with someone you love. Donate to your local library or conservation cause. Stop and really look at a tree, or a rock, or a frog. Play some classic rock - play it loud, and sing-a-long.
