Brunswick - William A. Anslow, 62, died suddenly on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Born in Oswego, NY, Bill was the loving husband for 38 years to his high school sweetheart, Christine M. Bidwell Anslow, and the son of William H. Anslow and Barbara E. Anthony Anslow of Guilderland. He resided in the Troy area most of his life, where he graduated from Troy High School and earned his Associate degree from Hudson Valley Community College. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology.
Bill was a devoted family man, adored by his wife, children, grandchildren, parents, extended family, and chosen family. He held many titles in his life including coach, referee, off-ice official, umpire, and president of Armory Little League, but his favorite roles were being a husband, father, and Pop Pop.
He was also a respected professional, a Civil Engineer for the Albany County Highway Department, from which he recently retired after 36 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the NYS Association of Town Superintendents of Highways and the American Public Works Association.
He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and entertaining at his home, though coaching his sons’ teams and enjoying hockey were close runner-ups. He was always the life of the party and a friend to all those he would meet. Even if he checked you into the boards on the ice, he’d be buying you a beer and chatting it up after the game.
At home, at work, and beyond, Bill always brought a smile to everyone’s face. He was a proud member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at RIT, an off-ice official for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers, and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Bill was fondly known as “Flounder” to his TKE brotherhood, and “Rocket” to his Troy friends. He loved being outdoors, whether he was in the woods or his own backyard, where he took particular pride in his flowers and vegetable gardens. Most notably, he was an avid sports fan. He’ll be remembered with a glass of Jameson in his hand while rooting for his favorite teams, the NY Rangers, NY Yankees, Miami Dolphins, and any team his grandsons played on.
Survivors in addition to his beloved wife and parents include his children, Selena Skiba (Todd) of Brunswick, Billy Anslow-O'Rourke (Dan) of Astoria, and CJ Anslow (fiance, Arielle Rozencwaig) of Manhattan; three grandchildren, Dylan, Brayden, and Jameson Skiba; his sisters, Barbara Anslow-Myers (Darrel), Suzanne Gunther (Joseph), Major General (Ret) Patricia Anslow (Colonel (Ret) Karen Gattis), and Kristin Anslow Kalson; his best friend who was like a brother to him, Philip Krause; his mother-in-law, Donna Bidwell; sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, David Bidwell, Cindy Paff (Tom), and Scott Bidwell (Bridget); many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; his treasured dogs, Max and Oliver, as well as the late Patches.
