Warren Moore Obituary

Rotterdam - Warren F. Moore (101) of Puritan Drive, Rotterdam, died peacefully at home on April 4, 2023.  Mr. Moore was born November 3, 1921 in Troy, NY, the son of Anna (Ditsch) Moore and Jacob Moore Jr.  He spent his early years in Troy, graduating from P.S. 10 (1935), Troy High School (1939) and from RPI with a bachelor’s degree (1942) and a master’s degree (1948) in Metallurgical Engineering.  He had been a resident of Rotterdam since 1950.

Mr. Moore was a Navy veteran of WWII and attained the rank of Lieutenant during 3 ½ years of active duty. He graduated from the Navy’s 8-month Reserve Officer Naval Architecture School at the Univ. of Michigan, and served as a Submarine Repair Officer and dry-docking officer at the Mare Island Navy Yard in Vallejo, California.  He was then shipped overseas as Officer in Charge of the YFD 27, a floating dry dock in Bahia, Brazil.

In 1948 Mr. Moore joined the General Electric Works Laboratory in Schenectady, NY as a Metallurgical Engineer.  He spent the next 36 years with GE, most of that time at Corporate R & D in Niskayuna, NY.  His field of expertise was the specialty melting and solidification of high purity and exotic metals and alloys, and he authored numerous papers and held several patents in the field.  He was a member of the American Society for Metals, American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers, American Vacuum Society, Sigma Xi, and the GE Elfuns.  
Mr. Moore was a lifelong boating and camping enthusiast and he and his family enjoyed many years cruising the Hudson River and Lake Champlain, and camping and canoeing in the Adirondacks.  He was a longtime active member of the Troy Motor Boat and Canoe Club, having joined as a canoe member at the age of 15.  He was a Life Member at the time of his death.
He was also a longtime active Methodist, his latest affiliation a 50-plus year membership in Fisher United Methodist Church (which is now Rotterdam UMC) where he served in many lay positions over the years.
Mr. Moore was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Beverley Patrie of Wynantskill, NY and his loving wife of 63 years, Delia Gene Morgan Moore, who passed away on June 12, 2010.
He is survived by his children, Robert (Toshie) Moore of Woodside, NY, James (Dian) Moore of Bluffton, SC, Linda (Wesley) Clark of Argyle, NY, and Patricia (Stephen) Melnick of Latham, NY; his grandchildren, Matthew (Niki) Clark, Timothy (Morgan) Clark, Allison Clark, Elizabeth (Francisco) Lovko, Stefan (Veronica) Melnick, Jessica (Lavell) Malloy, Kevin Melnick, and Kathleen Moore; and his great grandchildren, Juniper Lovko, and Oliver, Max, and Theo Clark.
Funeral services will be private.  Cremation and interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy, NY. Arrangements are by Bryce Funeral Home, Troy, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rotterdam UMC Memorial Fund, 1915 Helderberg Ave., Schenectady, NY  12306.
