Cohoes - Virginia L. “Ginny” Lewis McNamee, 101, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Eddy Village Green Cohoes after a long illness.
Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late James T. Lewis and Rose Leonard Lewis and wife of the late Frederick W. McNamee, whom she married in 1963. She had resided in Latham from 1965-2010 and was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, class of 1942 Valedictorian.
Ginny was employed 42 years for Manufacturers National Bank in Troy and later Marine Midland Bank which became HSBC retiring in 1984 as Vice President of Corporate Banking.
She was a member of the Van Schaick Island Country Club, an honorary board member of Troy
Chromatic Concerts where she served as treasurer for 15 years, a treasurer of Ilium Literary Club and a communicant of Our Lady of Assumption Church in Latham. She was a former member of A.I.B. Capital Region Chapter, National Association of Bank Women serving as Capital Region Chair in 1972 and a former board member of Visiting Nurse Association of Troy. Ginny was an avid golfer and bridge player, loved to read and she and her husband Fred, enjoyed many years together, traveling to many areas including Europe, Ireland and Hawaii and wintering in West Palm Beach, FL. They also shared a great love of music and dancing. Ginny, during World War II, signed up as a reservist in the WAVES.
Survivors include her very dedicated niece and nephew, Patricia DeMio, Latham and John (MaryAnn) DeMio, Waterford , step children Philip McNamee, Hoosick Falls and Carol McNamee, Fort Collins, CO, as well as nephew, Timothy (Lucy) Fitzpatrick, San Diego, CA, and several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Joan(Walter) Lewis Fitzpatrick and Marie(John) Lewis DeMio and two nephews, Michael and Kevin Fitzpatrick.
We also want to thank the staff at Eddy Village Green Cohoes, Hospice Staff as well as her friends and staff at her former residence of Beechwood Apartments in Troy, NY.
Relatives and friends may call at Our Lady of Assumption Church 498 Watervliet - Shaker Road Latham on Saturday, July 26, 2025 from 9-10AM with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10AM.
Entombment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery Mausoleum Menands.
