Averill Park - Virginia F. Smith, 103, died suddenly Friday, December 30, 2022 at her residence.
Born August 10, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of the late Peter Loth and Norah Devine Loth. Raised in Ozone Park, Queens, she was a graduate of John Adams High School in 1937.
Virginia was the wife of the late Kenneth J. Smith. They married on May 30, 1942 during World War II and, afterwards, resided in Floral Park, Queens, until 1959. They then moved to Red Oaks Mill in Dutchess County and in 1966 built their home in Averill Park. Virginia was employed as an executive secretary, a lunchroom lady at Miller Hill Elementary School and a homemaker. She was an active communicant of St. Henry's Church in Averill Park, a Life Member of the Rosary Altar Society and enjoyed participating in the church bazaars. As well Virginia was a member of the Averill Park Fire Department Auxiliary.
Survivors include her son, Thomas E. (Sheila R.) Smith, Albany; her granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn (Andrew) Hutchings, of Angola, NY, and great-grandchildren, Olivia and Owen Sannes, and Karina Hutchings; and grandson, Andrew Thomas (Amanda) Smith, of Austerlitz, NY, and great-grandchildren, Ronald and Willem Smith. Her sister, Joan McKenna of Farmingdale, and numerous nieces and nephews will all miss Virginia. Finally, she was predeceased by a brother, John Loth, and a sister, Geraldine Brown.

Relatives and friends may call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 4392 Route 150, West Sand Lake on Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 4-7 PM.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 11 AM at St. Henry's Church, 39 Old Route 66, Averill Park with Rev. John Cronin, officiating.
Interment will be in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Rensselaer.
