Wynantskill - Viola P. Sowalskie, 99, died Tuesday March 21, 2023 at Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush.
Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Fred J. Wagner and Henrietta (Walk) Wagner and wife of the late Earl F. Sowalskie, who passed away November 2, 2010 after 64 years of marriage.
She graduated from Averill Park High School in 1942 and worked for Montgomery Ward in Menands for many years. She moved to Wynantskill in 1947 where she was active in her children’s school.
Viola was a longtime member of the First Reformed Church of Wynantskill.
She was a bowler at Hi-Way Recreation and was secretary of the Wynantskill Mixed League for many years. She was president of the Wynantskill Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid golfer and longtime member of Van Schaick Island Country Club. She was a volunteer at the Van Rensselaer Manor.
Viola is survived by her sons, Bruce Sowalskie of Voorheesville and Glenn Sowalskie of Burlington, VT; 2 grandchildren, Eric and Laura Sowalskie; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, George B. Wagner.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 9AM -11AM with a funeral service at 11AM with Rev. Bethany Popkes, officiating.
Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
