Snyder’s Lake - Thomas J. Agar, born on October 29, 1944, passed away surrounded by loved ones at Samaritan hospital on December 13, 2024, at the age of 80.

Born in Brooklin, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late Matthew Arnold Agar and Ruth Fairchild Agar. Tom left Canada and moved to the US to meet his beloved wife, the late Sandra Jean Peabody Agar to whom he was married to for 47 years before her passing in 2010. They lived in Snyder’s lake and built a life filled with devotion to family and a passion for the outdoors. Thomas was a dedicated family man who cherished time spent with loved ones and found joy in nature as an avid outdoorsman and hunter.

Thomas was a member of RCCA (serving as Vice President and earning a life member award in 2024), The Adirondack Woodsman, and the Bailey Mountain Fish and Game Club. He was was always present at all family events especially when it came to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events.

Professionally, Thomas was a hardworking and skilled individual. He owned and operated Agar’s Garage for many years, earning the respect of his community through his expertise and commitment to service. He also worked as a diesel mechanic at Ryder Trucking to which he retired from after many years of dedicated services.

Survivors include his children, Sandra (Dorsey) Garrow, Troy, Laura Cesta, Albany, Steven Agar, Sr., Albany, Peggy (John) Morgans, Snyder’s Lake, and Jennifer Agar, Snyder’s Lake; his grandchildren, Amy (Paul), Michael, Brandi, Jonathan, Jessica Mouawad (Charlie), Jacquelyn (Vince), Samantha (Miles), Nicole (Kyle), Elizabeth (Devin), Jacob, Cody and Xander; 24 great grandchildren; his siblings, Gail Haynes, Harry Agar, Judy Gudgeon and John Agar; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Sandra; his brother, Richard Agar and his grandson, Steven Agar, Jr.

We want to thank Tom’s granddaughter Jennifer Agar, who was more a daughter to him, for everything she did for him over the years.  She was so much more to him, she was his caregiver, she was his nurse, she was his companion and his best friend.  We will forever be grateful to her for all the love and care she gave to him so that he was able to be in his home until the end.   We hope you know how much he truly loved you as we all do.
