Brunswick - Stuart E. Palmer, 81, died Monday, May 4, 2026, suddenly at his residence, after planting Christmas trees earlier in the day.
Born in Albany, he was son of the late Elwyn Charles Palmer and Agnes Yakubec Palmer, and husband for 60 years of Linda Lee Johnson Palmer. He was raised in Colonie and resided in Brunswick for the past 50 years.
He was a Graduate of Colonie Central High School, where he was a member of the Track and Field Team, and held the record in the Discus. Stuart also graduated from SUNY Cobleskill where he earned his Associate's Degree in Horticulture.
He was employed as a Horticulturist for NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets for 38 years, retiring 22 years ago.
He was an avid golfer, Lionel train collector and a hobby Christmas tree farmer. Stuart loved sailing on The Great Sacandaga Lake and summering in the cottage he built in Northville. He was a veteran of the Air National Guard.
Stuart was confirmed in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Colonie, and after moving to Troy, attended Brunswick Presbyterian Church, where he had fond memories of playing on the Church's softball team, many years ago.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his children: Joseph (Kathi Crawford) Palmer, Granby, CO; Mark (Jennifer Shatz) Palmer, Eagle Mills; Amy (Matthew) Perala, North Greenbush; and Carrie (Michael Greene) Palmer - Stuart's favorite next door neighbors; and his grandchildren, “The Delights and Love of His Life”, Kelsey Grace, SUNY Albany '23; Owen Matthew, RPI and ROTC- USAF '27; and Alexander Stuart Perala, MCLA '30; Ella Kelley Palmer, EWS '27; and Hunter Wayne Leroux of Grand Lake, CO; a sister, Karen Robidoux, Hernando, FL and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service at a later date at the convenience of the family.
