Steven Hoffman Obituary

Guilderland - Steven E. Hoffman, 81, died Thursday, September 29, 2022, at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn,  after a long battle with esophageal cancer and bladder cancer.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was son of the late Edward Thomas Hoffman and Carrie Myrdal Hoffman. He was raised in College Point, resided in Guilderland for several years and was a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School (1958), and New York University (1962). 

Steve was a Senior Budget Analyst for 26 years at the New York State Teachers Retirement System, retiring in 1996.

He was a life member of The Poppenhusen Institute in College Point, NY and Alpha Phi Omega, National Service Fraternity, a member of the Free and Accepted Masons at the Evening Star Lodge #75, a Life Member of the American Legion and a long time member of the First Church in Albany (Reformed) where he served as an ordained Senior Deacon and Senior Elder and a member of the Board of Trustees. Steve served in the United States Air Force from November 1962 through April 1972.  He served as a Missile Launch Officer, in Turkey, following the Cuban Missile Crisis, served in Japan, during the Vietnam War and separated from active duty with the rank of Captain. 

Steve loved to travel.  He was fortunate enough to visit 56 countries around the world. He loved to meet new people and try new foods. He enjoyed flying to foreign countries, and in recent years, he enjoyed many transatlantic crossings on the Queen Mary 2, and the Christmas cruises to the Caribbean. He also traveled all over the United States on AMTRAK. 

Steve would like to thank Dr. Lawrence Garbo, NYOH Patroon Creek, the nurses in the Infusion Room, and Dr. Jonah Marshall, Capital Region Urology, for their excellent care. 

Survivors include his brother, Roger (Donna) Hoffman, Brick, NJ; his cousins, Randolph (Joann) Myrdal, PA, Trina (Wallace) Ceppi, VA, Susan (David) McKenzie, ME, Walter (Kelly) Myrdal and Walter Hartman, NJ.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, October 16, 2022 at 3PM at the First Church in Albany 110 North Pearl Street Albany with Rev. Dr. Mashona Walston, Pastor, officiating. 

A military service and Interment will be held Monday October 17, 2022 at 10:30AM at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery 200 Duell Road Schuylerville.  Those attending should meet at the main gate by 10:15AM.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Steven E. Hoffman to The Community Hospice (Gift Processing Center) 310 S. Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12208.
