Sara "Sally" L. (Latham) Coonley

Troy - Sara “Sally” L. Latham Coonley, 98, died Monday, April 24, 2023, at Samaritan Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Carroll Latham and Beatrice Seaman Bachman Latham and husband of the late William E.  Coonley. She was raised in Castleton and East Greenbush, resided in Troy many years and Dutch Village Menands for 25 years. Sally was a graduate of Columbia High School in East Greenbush where she was class president and head cheerleader. She went on to Wheelock College in Boston and Russell Sage College in Troy where she pursued her dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher. 

Sally was a kindergarten teacher in the Enlarged City School District of Troy at School 18, 17 and 14 for 35 years, retiring 43 years ago.  Sally was the most gifted kindergarten teacher and all her students loved her and remembered her when they met her years later.  She made a special place in their hearts in their education experience.

She was a member of Newtonville United Methodist Church and the Menands Senior Citizens.  Sally loved animals, especially her daughter’s dogs, collecting antiques, trips to Cape Cod, Bermuda and Maine.  Sally was a one of a kind, giving, caring and always had a smile on her face.  No matter what she always had a smile. 

Survivors include her devoted daughter, Kim Babson, Loudonville; her beloved grandchildren, Kylee E. (Carl) Midura, LaJolla, CA and Christopher (Rebecca) Herbert, Charlotte, NC; her great grandchildren, Cody Midura, Sadie and Alexander Herbert and her nieces, Pam Latham, FL and Kit Hoewt, FL.  She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas (Joan) Latham and first cousin, Lila Latham Touhey.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 10-11AM with a funeral service to follow at 11AM with  Rev. Nick Bufano, officiating. 

Interment will be in  Mountain View Cemetery Castleton - On - Hudson.
