Troy, New York – Sandra A. Gull, a devoted Troy resident passed away on September 29th 2024. Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Sandra was the daughter of the late Joseph A. Gull and Ann M. Ricchi Gull and was the longtime partner of the late artist Peter Taylor. Raised in Pittsfield, she later found her heart in Troy, where she became an active part of the community.
Sandra was a graduate of Russell Sage College and earned her Master’s degree in Educational Counseling and Student Personnel from the State University of New York at Albany. Her career spanned both business and higher education, notably at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Lally School of Management & Technology, where she coached MBA students in leadership and teamwork. Her impact extended beyond the campus, as she worked on community development projects supporting local businesses and economic growth.
Recognized for her resourcefulness, heart and service to the community, Sandra was named the Resourceful Woman of the Year by the YWCA of the Greater Capital Region in 2002, where she later was initiated as a Godmother. She was also said to have started the Victorian Stroll, now a beloved annual tradition in downtown Troy, celebrating the city’s heritage and charm.
Sandra was known not only for her professional achievements but also for her personal style and humor. Her friends and colleagues remember her as a vibrant presence, with an eye for fashion and a knack for lightening the room with her wit. She served on various boards, including the YWCA, the Rubin Foundation, and the Troy Public Library, and was a founding member of the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall Association.
A memorial will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the YWCA of the Greater Capital Region 21 First Street Troy, NY 12180 in Sandy's name as it always had a special place in her heart.
