Troy - Ruth R. Casale of Troy, NY, cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14,2024 at the age of 99.
Ruth was born to the late Gladys and Carl Ruden and grew up in Buffalo, NY. She graduated from the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing as an RN and attended the University of Buffalo to continue her education in Public Health Nursing. In 1949, Ruth moved to Troy to work as a public health nurse where she met her husband, the late Carmine J. Casale.
Ruth later attended the College of St. Rose to earn her credentials to become a School Nurse Teacher. Ruth’s career provided her with a wide range of experiences that included working for the Board of Cooperative Educational Services, La Salle Institute in Troy, NY, St.Jude the Apostle School, and Gardner Dickinson School. Her optimistic and caring personality endeared her to the students.
In retirement, Ruth pursued her passions which included travel, quilting, bridge, reading, water aerobics and spending time with family and friends. She was active in her quilt guild, creating many beautiful, artistic wall hangings and quilts. Ruth loved the time spent with friends playing bridge as well as discussing books with her book club.
Ruth was the loving mother of three children, Anita Casale of Peabody, MA, Charles Casale and his wife Phyllis of Wynantskill, NY, and Mark Casale and his wife Jane of Latham, NY. She was the caring grandmother of four grandchildren, Shelby Wilson, Stefanie Casale, Michael Casale and Daniel Casale as well as four great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Logan Wilson and Bianca and Gianna Sheehan. In addition, she was a beloved aunt to several nieces and nephews and a dear friend to many.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was predeceased by sisters, Elizabeth Heffer and Marjorie Ruden and brother George Ruden.
A special thanks to the staff at the Eddy Village Green at Cohoes, NY who cared for Ruth while she was a resident and to The Community Hospice staff who provided comfort in her final days.
Friends and family may call, Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 10-11AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 43 Brookside Ave., Wynantskill with a Memorial Mass to follow at 11AM.
