Roy Krasse Obituary

Rensselaer – Roy J Krasse, 91, of Summit at Eastwyck died Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Jeremiah Krasse and Edna Hohlfeld Krasse, the adopted son of the late George and Eileen Vaughan and husband of the late Elizabeth Dameron Krasse. He had resided in Summit at Eastwyck in North Greenbush, NY and was a graduate of Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY where he earned his BS degree in Applied Physics. He was also a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY where he earned his MS in Engineering.

Mr. Krasse worked for Sperry Gyroscope Company, Great Neck NY in their Engineering department testing high powered Klystron Amplifiers and participated in the in-flight testing program of inertial guidance systems for the B-58 Hustler. He then worked at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in the Nuclear Engineering department overseeing the operation of the linear accelerator. Roy moved on to work at Mechanical Technology Inc. (MTI) as the Manager of Financial Control for the Stirling Engine division where part of his duties included functioning as a liaison with NASA and United Stirling of Sweden. After leaving MTI, he went to work for Entek Environmental and Technical Services as the COO. His most recent employment was as the Facility Manager at Brunswick Church.

Roy proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS Magara. He was a recipient of The National Defense Medal and The Navy Occupation Service Medal.

He attended several churches in his lifetime which included Bellmore Presbyterian Church, Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in Troy, Brunswick Presbyterian Church and St Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church. In each church, Roy served as a ruling Elder, ran various committees and sang in the choir. He also enjoyed performing in musicals such as “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat” and “Godspell”. As a member of the choir at St Andrews, he had the opportunity to perform on a concert tour in France and England and sing at Carnegie Hall.

His other interests included golf, skiing, bowling, playing bridge, singing with community musical groups and travel.

Survivors include three daughters, Amy Elizabeth (Michael) Roarke, Alison Sue (Daniel) Brinkman, and Jennifer Eileen Krasse; his grandchildren, Kerry Roarke, Devin (Kaneesha) Roarke, Maggie Roarke and Courtney, Christopher, and Joseph Brinkman; his great grandchildren, Duncan, Gavin and Hugh Bowman and Nova Grace Roarke and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a grandson, Patrick J Roarke, a nephew, Wayne Solotoff and a sister, Joan A Eddy of Florida.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday October 8 at 11:00 AM at the Brunswick Church, 42 White Church Lane, Troy NY 12180, with interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery.
