Brunswick - Robert ‘Chops’ J. Goyer, 84, of Miller Avenue died Monday, March 15, 2021, at his residence after a long illness.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late Norman J. Goyer and Helen M. Beehm Goyer and husband for 65 years of the late Mary Lou Harley Goyer, who passed away in January of this year. He and Mary Lou had wintered in New Smyrna Beach, FL and enjoyed boating on Lake George and spending time with their family. He was a graduate of Troy High School and Russell Sage College.
Chops worked in the tape division of Nashua Corporation in Watervliet for 36 years, also at the Credit Union for Norton Company, was a substitute teacher at Tamarac School and worked at the golf course at Frear Park.
He was a referee for high school girls soccer and volleyball, an active member of the Veterans of Lansingburgh, Inc. He was a paratrooper in the Airborne Division of the Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his children, Gary (Debra) Goyer, West Sand Lake, Richard (Colleen) Goyer, Grafton, Nancy O'Malley, Troy, Shelly (Teddy) Johnston, Troy and John (Laurel) Goyer, Brunswick; a daughter-in-law , Tracy Goyer, Troy; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Robert P. Goyer and a brother, Norman Goyer.
Funeral service private at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville.
