Robert "Bob" W. Melsom

NORTH GREENBUSH - Robert "Bob" W. Melsom, 94, died Thursday, January 1, 2026 at Van Rensselaer Manor, surrounded by his loving family.

Beloved husband of the late Barbara Fish Melsom, who died January 12, 2001. Son of the late John W. and May Rogers Melsom. Father of Nancy (Robert) Fiedler of Wilmington NC., Janice Melsom of Baltimore MD., and “Jack” John R. (Debi) Melsom of Brunswick NY. Also survived by his grandchildren Justin (Jennifer) Fiedler of Baltimore MD and their children Taylor and Alice, Megan (Constantine) Kanellis of Troy and their children Costa, Theo and Stella; Sydney (Gerry) Willson of Troy and their children Luka and Jack (expected soon); Connor (Alexandria) Sanchez of Baltimore MD and their children Atlas and Griffin; and Lindsay (Jacob) Massey of Columbia, MD and their daughter Nora. 

He was a graduate of Troy High School and attended the evening division of Russell Sage College. He was in the Insurance business for over 40 years serving as Vice President of Geer- Stillman Associates, then the Lawrence Group. In retirement, he also worked at the Brunswick Town Beach.

He participated in community activities including the Kiwanis Club of Troy and Salvation Army. Throughout his life, he enjoyed camping, square dancing, golfing, and playing bridge with friends. He served as a deacon, trustee and elder at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church (Troy), and as an elder of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Brunswick, (Brunswick Church). Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bob’s family sends their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Van Rensselaer Manor, Unit B2, for the excellent care provided to him over the last four years.

Relatives and friends may call at the Brunswick Church, 42 White Church Lane, Troy on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 1:00-1:45PM with a memorial service to follow at 2:00PM with Rev. Harry Heintz, former Pastor, officiating.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Robert W.
