BRUNSWICK – Bob Hydorn, 83, died on April 10, 2025, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Troy, NY, on August 29, 1941, he was the son of the late Elmer David and Elizabeth McIntyre Hydorn. A longtime resident of Brunswick, NY, where the Hydorn family has roots dating back to the late 1700's, Bob was raised in Watervliet, NY. He was a 1959 graduate of Watervliet High School and would later earn an associate’s degree from Albany Business College. Bob proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1961-65 and had fond memories of being stationed at Anderson Air Force Base on Guam. After returning home for his tour of duty, he started his professional career with the State Bank of Albany where he worked in a variety of capacities for the bank and its successors (Norstar Bank and Fleet Bank) for more than 25 years. He later served as a bookkeeper/accountant for Rensselaer County, retiring from the Probation Department in 2013. Bob loved the outdoors. He enjoyed tending to the flowers and shrubs in his backyard as well taking walks in the woods. One of his favorite places to hike was the Dyken Pond Environmental Center, where he often performed volunteer trail work. Bob was also an avid college hockey fan and was an RPI Engineers season ticket holder for 40 years. He collected college hockey pins and often traveled to NCAA playoff games so he could meet fans from around the country and swap pins with them. Bob was a former member of the Brunswick Elks Lodge #2556 and was that organization’s Elk of the Year for 1987-88. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Joyce Ann Schumann Hydorn, and his sister, Marcia Cady. He is survived by his son, Robert J. Hydorn, sister-in-law, Barbara (Ronald) Ives, nephew, Edward Cady, and niece, Mildred Cady (Marnen Laibow-Koser). Special thanks from the family to his devoted long-time aides, Angelina and Nancy, as well as Colleen, Noah, Michelle, Antoinette and Joel from The Community Hospice.
