Troy - Robert N. Pierpont, 73, died Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, MA, after a long illness.

Born in Pasadena, CA, he was son of the late Philip Gardner Pierpont and Mary Nye Pierpont. He was raised in California and became a long-time resident of Troy after graduating from the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a degree in construction engineering and earning his master's degree in historic preservation from Columbia University.

A skilled and passionate architect specializing in historic preservation, Bob began his vocation working for the New York State Historic Trust and spent the majority of his professional life employed by the firm Mesick, Cohen, Wilson and Baker in Albany, NY. Over the course of his career he lent his knowledge and technical expertise to many prestigious projects including, Blair House in Washington, DC; the Otsego County Courthouse, Cooperstown, NY; the Burden Iron works Office Building,Troy, NY; the New York State Capitol Assembly Staircase Lay Light, Albany, NY; the Tennessee Governor's Mansion, Nashville, TN; the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Albany, NY; the Vermont State House, Montpelier, VT; the Maryland State House, Annapolis, MD; the Knickerbocker Mansion, Schaghticoke, NY; the 1660’s Jesuit Chapel, St. Mary’s City, MD; and Thomas Cole New Studio, Catskill, NY. He spent his last years on the exquisite redesign of a second home in Washington County for his family.

Survivors in addition to his cherished wife of over forty years, Ruth Lawlor Pierpont, include his beloved daughter, Catherine; his treasured grandson, Evan Class; sisters- and brothers-in-law Joan and James Healey and Carol and John Tashjian; nieces and nephews Jamie (Brian) Ellwood, Emily, Jack and Michael Tashjian; and many dear cousins and friends, all of whom loved Bob for his dry wit, unflagging interest in and knowledge of a variety of subjects and the delight he took in antiques, cooking, cars, sports, children and dogs.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at St. Peter’s Health Partners and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, especially Dr. Giada Bianchi, whose care enabled Bob to enjoy life and to continue his quest for learning up until the very last.
