Pittstown - Richard “Rick” Danskin of Pittstown, NY, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the age of 69 after a brief illness. Born at US Air Force Hospital, Wimple Park, London, England where his father was serving, Rick was the oldest son of the late Richard Danskin and Genevieve Gallo Danskin.
Rick was a lifelong resident of Troy, NY, attending School 18 and La Salle Institute. He was a communicant at Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy. Rick enjoyed playing sports in his youth, especially ice hockey where he was on the Troy Pee Wee Hockey travel teams for many years and La Salle Institute teams. In his teens, he travelled to Europe on a USA All-Star hockey team to compete against other countries. When he moved to Pittstown, he became active as a driver with the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps.
Rick was employed as a land surveyor with his father’s firm of Richard Danskin Land Surveying and Engineering, and later with his brother Mark at Danskin Land Surveying. He loved to garden and tend to his many animals over the years (cats, dogs, chickens and several goats) at his home. His tomatoes were prized by all who were fortunate to receive them.
Rick may have seemed to be a gruff old man when you first met him, but that was just a facade as he loved to tease people, especially children. He was generous with his time and talents, and was very caring and compassionate. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Rick is survived by his siblings: Scott (Suzanne) Danskin of Fredericksburg, VA., Dr. Lesley Danskin (Richard Michel) of Troy and Mark (Barbara) Danskin of Troy; stepchildren Mandy (Gary) Niegoda and Brad (Erika) Fuller; grandchildren Addyson Niegoda, Jackson Fuller and Stevie Fuller; and several nieces, a nephew and a grand nephew.
Relatives and friends may call at Our Lady of Victory Church 55 North Lake Avenue Troy on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 from 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 12:15PM. Interment will immediately follow at Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy.
