Pinellas Park, FL - Richard ‘Dick’ R. Gardner, 81, died Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Palm Garden of Largo Seminole, FL after an illness related to Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Troy, NY, he was son of the late Raymond Gardner and Elizabeth Maxon Gardner and husband of his first wife the late Carole Pearson Gardner, and his second wife the late Barbara Bissell Gardner. Raised in Troy and resided in Defreestville, Poestenkill, and the past 20+ years in Florida. He was a graduate of Troy High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Empire State College.
Dick worked in finance for the NYS Department of Education for 35 years, retiring 26 years ago.
He was always involved and enjoyed bowling, golfing, shuffleboard and playing cards. Richard was a longtime member of Blooming Grove Reformed Church, where he was an Elder and member of the choir. He was an Air Force veteran stationed in Spain. He was also a member of the Elks Club for 35 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Wendy (Derek) Narbon, Defreestville; a son, Kevin Gardner, Los Angeles, CA; two brothers, Wayne Gardner, FL and Gary (Sandy) Gardner, FL; a sister, Joan Roe, Ballston Spa; two stepsons, Robert (Annette) Bissell and Kevin Bissell; two grandchildren,
Monica Wells and Rachel LeMatty; a great granddaughter, Briana Wells and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 11AM-1PM with a funeral service to follow at 1PM with Rev. Jeff Silvernail, officiating. The service will be available via Facebook on the Bryce page live and later.
Interment will be in Blooming Grove Cemetery, Defreestville.
