Poestenkill -  It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Richard “Dick” Galvin, on July 1 st . A pillar of strength, love, and guidance, he touched the lives of many and will be forever cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born and educated in Worcester, MA, Dick graduated from Clark University and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from the Bank of America in 1999. Dick was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of Northeast Health, Inc., Albany Memorial and Samaritan Hospitals, the Troy Club, the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation, and was a member of the American Legion and the Troy Public Library Foundation. He was past president and a member of the board of the Community Foundation of the Capital Region, and was past president and secretary of the board of the Society of the Friends of St. Patrick in Troy. Dick was past president and member of The Country Club of Troy.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Galvin and their children, Patricia (Ray) Bagley, Kathleen Downey, Meg Wager, Jack (Theresa) Galvin, and Terry Galvin. He has gone on to join his son, Richard J. “Dickie” Galvin, great grandson, Cameron R. Downey, and first wife, Eleanor Slack Galvin, who he lost to Polio in 1955.

Grandpa leaves behind 10 grandchildren, Jason (Laura) Downey, Ryan (Amanda) Downey, Christopher (Chelsea) Downey, Shaneh (Jason) Bielawa, Rebecca (Lance) Dunning, Andrew (Carlene) Wager, Erin, Michael, Matthew, and Hunter Galvin and 6 great grandchildren, Brianna, Nolan, Gavin, Hannah, Charlotte, and Eleanora.

The most striking qualities that defined Dad, were his unwavering faith and integrity. He approached every aspect of his life with honesty and fairness, serving as an exemplary role model for those around him. He had a quiet presence and listened intently offering advice when you needed it most. His sense of humor was infectious, and his witty remarks reminded us of the importance of laughter as a source of strength and resilience. He enjoyed a day on the golf course, a cigar, and a can of Schaefer.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation for the exemplary care given to Dad by caregivers Brenda, Darlene, Gina, Tena, and Amalia, and hospice nurse, Ryan.
