Regina Lombardo Obituary

Troy - Regina Octavia Lombardo, 56, died Sunday, August 22, 2021 as a result of a COVID infection. 

Born and residing in Troy, NY, she was the youngest of ten siblings and the eighth daughter of Antoinette and Dominic Lombardo, Jr. She started special education preschool at the Pinewoods Center in Troy and was educated through the age of 21, with Rensselaer, Columbia, Greene County BOCES. As a young adult, Regina transitioned into a group home setting and later into supported and supervised apartments through the services of The Arc of Rensselaer County. With the loving and dedicated support of her family, friends and the Arc, Regina was able to grow and flourish and lead a full and meaningful life. Over the years she participated in many Special Olympic events. Through the services and support of the Arc she was able to work in a variety of competitive employment settings, sheltered workshops and later enjoyed day programing through Living Resources. Regina was a valued member of several bowling leagues. She enjoyed playing basketball and loved to draw and write birthday cards. Regina enjoyed her life and had a playful nature which endeared her to everyone who had the pleasure to enjoy her company. 

She is predeceased by her parents and is survived by her nine siblings, Stella Lombardo (Herbert Abbott, MD.), Slingerlands; Cecilia (Walter) Woodka, Troy; Julia Lombardo (Eric Mason) Scotia; Louisa Lombardo (James Dillon) Niskayuna; Theresa Lombardo (John Shinkunas), Stuart, FL.; Maria (Paul) Freddura, Cambridge, MA; Mario Lombardo, Covelo, CA; Anthony Lombardo, Covelo, CA and Victoria (Charles) McNally, as well as 24 nieces and nephews. She was a great aunt to 16.

The family sends thoughts of appreciation to the devoted and caring staff at the Arc and most recently at Samaritan Hospital ICU. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Williams Road in North Greenbush on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 11am. All visitors are required to wear face coverings.  Regina will be laid to rest alongside her loving parents at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
