Averill Park - Raymond K. ‘Ray’ Schmid Sr., age 87, entered into eternal life on Friday, September 3rd, 2021 after many years of treatment for follicular non-Hodgkins lymphoma and melanoma.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond A. and Amelia (Romer) Schmid. He and his beloved wife Theresa (Pszeniczny) married and celebrated thirty-four years together in July. Ray attended one room schoolhouses until Greenville Central School District was established.
For 23 years Ray gave dedicated service to the NYS Department of Transportation. Ray proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
He enjoyed fishing all seasons of the year at Queechy Lake, Lake George, Tomahannock Reservoir, and Alexandria bay.
As a young man, Ray attended to his family needs by demonstrating his carpentry skills building two homes, one in Earlton, NY and the other in E. Jewett, NY. He gave woodworking gifts for family and friends.
Ray was a devoted father of Carol (Tom) Murray, Debra (Tom) Brooks, and Raymond Schmid Jr.; grandpa of Sabrina, Bridget (Chad) Loucks and Heather and step-grandpa to Samantha Brooks. He is also survived by two great grandchildren, Addison and Oliver. Ray was predeceased by his siblings, Dorothy Brokasch and John Schmid.
Family and friends are invited to call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 4392NY150, PO Box 275West Sand Lake on Wednesday, September 08, 2021 from 11AM - 1PM followed by a celebration of Raymond’s life at 1PM Face covering and social distancing are required if not vaccinated.
Interment will be in St. Henry's Cemetery Averill Park.
Ray’s family is grateful to the many NYOH doctors and nurses, formerly at Albany Medical Center Hospital and presently at Patroon Creek. Heartfelt thanks go to Mihar Raval, M.D., Stephen Wrzesinski, M.D. and Lindy Davis M.D. and those fantastic NYOH nurses. Special thanks to Dr. Eric Luper who kept Ray mobile over the years.
