Voorhees, NJ - Ralph ‘Doc’ E. Wehnau, 93, died Monday, July 11, 2022, after a long illness.
Born in West Sand Lake, he was son of the late Madison Wehnau and Myra Holdridge Wehnau. He was raised and resided in West Sand Lake for many years, moving to Phoenix, AZ and then Moorestown, NJ. He was a graduate of Averill Park Schools and for several years was a beloved school bus driver for the district. He enjoyed spending time and boating on Burden Lake.
Ralph was a zoo keeper at the Phoenix Zoo in Arizona.
He was a Past Fire Chief of West Sand Lake Fire Company and the last co-founder of the Sand Lake Ambulance. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, M. Duane Wehnau, Paul L. Wehnau, Walter F. Wehnau, Dora Wehnau and Norman C. Wehnau.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a full military service Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 10:30AM at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville with Rev. Jim Knapp, officiating. Those wishing to attend should meet on Wednesday the 20th by 10:15AM at the main entrance to the cemetery.
