Paul Jureller, III. Obituary

Troy, New York - Paul Jureller, 60, died from recurrent glioblastoma on Friday, January 9, 2026, at his home.

Born in Williamsville, New York, Paul lived a life rich in purpose, creativity, and connection. He courageously fought, and succeeded, to live a full, adventurous life post diagnosis, enjoying new experiences and spending time with the people he loved right up until his death.

Paul graduated from Williamsville East High School in 1983 and continued his academic journey at Rollins College, earning his degree in 1987. He then pursued a legal education at Albany Law School where he met his wife, Leslie Moyer, on the first day of orientation, graduating in 1992. For the next 33 years, Paul built a successful career as an attorney in Albany at Thorn Gershon Tymann & Bonanni.

While his professional accomplishments were many, it was his passion for life outside the office that truly defined him. Paul and Leslie married June 26, 1993, and together they built a life full of love and adventure. They raised two daughters - Alexandra and Hannah. Paul was a devoted father who found joy in showing them the world from babyhood, teaching them to cook and make bread (carbonara lessons required!), and supporting and loving them through every stage of life.

Paul’s love for travel - especially to Italy - was infectious. He delighted in planning trips for family and friends that blended culture, cuisine, and unforgettable experiences. Whether navigating the chaos of driving in Palermo or laughing over beers at Bir & Fud after a long day of exploring in Rome, Paul brought people together through shared adventures. His trips often included unique moments like a neighborhood dinner in Siena the night before the Palio or spontaneous detours, creating hilarious mishaps and laughter that became cherished memories.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Paul had a particular fondness for hockey. His “old guys” hockey league was more than just a pastime - it was a source of camaraderie and joy. The locker room banter and post-game beers were as important as the game itself - and he made unforgettable friends who now live near and far. Golf was another passion that connected Paul with family and friends. The annual tournament he played with his brothers in memory of their father (competing for dad’s watch) included trips to hometown Buffalo, Ireland and Scotland, and for many summers, it brought extended family together, creating beautiful memories of sun, wine, music, and laughter.

When Paul and Leslie moved to Troy in 2015, Paul poured his energy into restoring their historic American Foursquare. With determination - and YouTube tutorials - he taught himself carpentry and tiling and tackled much of the renovation himself, Leslie following with a paintbrush - a true labor of love. Paul also nurtured his artistic side through painting. Initially experimenting with large abstract pieces using old house paint in the basement of their previous home, he later refined his technique by taking landscape classes at the Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy. Working with oils became a new creative outlet that brought him joy and connection with fellow artists (and class breaks at the local ice cream shop!). Ever humble about his work, he showed locally and in Cooperstown, winning an award for his painting “Late Afternoon on Martha’s Vineyard.”

Despite his many hobbies and professional commitments, Paul always made time for others. Whether helping friends with projects or offering guidance (legal or otherwise) to those who sought it, he gave generously of his time and energy - with patience and kindness.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Leslie Moyer; daughters Alexandra and Hannah; mother, Rosalind A Jureller; siblings Anne (Carl) Alexander, Art (Rena), David (Emily), and Rich (Lori); many first cousins, as close as siblings; aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews from both sides of the family; in-law family, Bill, Rick, Jen and Chris (Robyn) Moyer; lifelong friends who have been by his side; and dear Rollins Phi Delta Theta brothers. He was predeceased by his father, Paul Jureller.

Paul’s legacy lives on through the laughter he shared, the meals (and pizza!) he prepared, the paintings he created, and relationships he nurtured throughout his life. May his memory bring comfort and a smile to all who knew him. And go Bills!

Many thanks to Paul’s superb medical team at Massachusetts General Hospital who gave him a great head start to living as long as possible and for being constant support throughout recurrence - and to his team at Roswell who boosted his overall survival by enrolling him in its SurVaxM clinical trial. Amazing humans do this work.
