Pasquale Sullo PhD

Colonie - Pasquale (Pat) Sullo PhD, 87, died Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.

Born on July 27, 1937, in New Haven, CT, he was the son of the late Joseph Sullo and Theresa Onofrio Sullo and husband of the late Nancy A. Rooney. He was born and raised in New Haven, CT where he graduated from Notre Dame High School. His love of education led him to Troy, NY where he earned his Bachelor’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute while running his own coffee shop called Rouge et Noir. 

Pat then enlisted in the Air Force during the Vietnam war where he was a navigator and retired a Captain. During his time in the AF, he and his first wife Faith had two children: Teresina Carmela, and Pasquale Joseph. He continued to study while serving in the Air Force, earning 2 Master’s degrees. As the Vietnam war ended, Pat and Faith moved to Tallahassee FL, where Pat attended FSU and earned his PHD in statistics. After a brief stint at Temple University, Pat came full circle and returned to Troy as a Professor of Statistics at RPI for over 30 years, retiring in 2006. During his time at RPI, Pat and Faith had a 60-acre farm where they raised a multitude of animals, grew their own food, made maple syrup, hayed the fields and hosted family and friends.

Pat’s musical talents began at the early age of 5 when he started playing the accordion. He played many musical instruments but especially loved the standup bass and piano. This led to a lifelong love of jazz. He and his second wife Nancy enjoyed traveling, particularly to Italy.

Survivors include a son, Pasquale Sullo, Troy; a daughter, Teresina Sullo, Ojai, CA; a grandson, Luciano Fiore Sullo; a sister, Raffaela (Giro Sr.) Esposito and a nephew, Giro Esposito Jr. He was predeceased by a grandson, Pedro Sullo and a niece, Theresa Esposito. He was also the beloved “Pawdre” of Luna, Stella, and Talia.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 1-4 PM with a service to follow at 4 PM with Rev. Edward Kacerguis, officiating.
 
The interment will be held Tuesday, February 18th at 1PM at St. Joseph's Cemetery 156 Mann Avenue Troy. All attending will meet at the main gate by 12:50 PM.
