"Nina Melnik was born in 1941 in Kiev where she lived with her parents. She graduated from high school and then from The Institute of National Economy , worked in The Ministry of Consumer Services as an economist for over 40 years and finished as a department supervisor.
In 1995 Nina immigrated to Albany with her husband Yakov who was Jewish. There was a lot of Jewish refugees in Albany at that time. She started attending Russian Church of Albany. For many years Nina was part of the Russian community in Albany. Bnai Brith Apartment building located near Washington Park had about 50% of Russian speaking residence at the time Nina lived there. She resided in that building for many years before she moved down to New York City. Nina made that decision to move because there was a lot of Russian speaking services there, and her English was limited. She was able to visit the doctors, pharmacies, stores, banks on her own for many years there. Nina lived there till the time of her death.
Her husband passed away in 2017. Nina will be remembered by the Russian community in Albany as a very honest person".
