Nancy J. (Haight) Matthews

Troy - Nancy J. Haight Matthews, 71, died Saturday, March 12, 2022, in Kissimmee, FL while on vacation with her family after a long illness.

Nancy was born in Troy to the late Warren Haight and Muriel A. Schlegel Haight. She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and Hudson Valley Community College. Nancy held several positions through the years both at HVCC and the City of Troy, the last of which was Personnel Director. She enjoyed her retirement by spending the winter months in Lauderdale-By-the-Sea, FL and for 38 years she relished her family’s annual summer stay in Cape Cod. Nancy was an active member of the Van Rensselaer Garden Club, where she particularly enjoyed assisting with the annual greens show at Christmastime. A lifelong gardener, Nancy spent countless hours cultivating her home gardens. Her true passion, however, was her family, which blossomed under her loving care. Nancy joyfully doted on her children and grandchildren; her nieces and nephews and their children; and dear family friends. 

Nancy was the devoted and beloved wife of Thomas Matthews, with whom she proudly shared 51 years of marriage. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her cherished children, Kelly (David) English, Sacramento, CA and Nicholas (Heather) Matthews, Niskayuna. She was predeceased by her firstborn, Kevin Matthews. Nancy was an adored Gram to Rex, Olive and Theo. She is additionally survived by two brothers, Russell (Susan) Haight, Kyle, Texas and Gary (Terra) Haight, Brunswick as well as many dear nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Friday, March 18th from 4pm-7pm with a service to follow at 7pm.
