Troy - Modris “Moe” Vitolins, 77, died Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady after a short illness.
Born in Darmstadt, Germany, he was the son of the late Andrejs Vitolins and Zinaida Hermansons Vitolins, and husband of the late Margaret Mitchell Vitolins. He emigrated to the United States in 1950, was raised in upstate New York, and had resided in Troy since 1974. He was a graduate of Troy High School and Siena College and served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1973. Moe worked for the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, retiring in 2009.
Survivors include a son, Andrew R. (Anna) Vitolins, Glenville; a daughter, Amy R. (Arthur) Bellini, Troy; six grandchildren (Anna, Emma and Jack Vitolins; and Arthur III, Mitchell and Jordan Bellini); two step-grandchildren (Shiloh and Livia Annese); two great grandchildren (Giavana Grace Margaret and Alizabeth Rain Bellini); two sisters (Nora Vitolins-Roullier, Wynantskill and Daphne Jones, Poestenkill); two sisters-in-law (Susan Vitolins, Wynantskill and Betsy Savery, Reno NV) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Uldis A. Vitolins.
A celebration of life will be held at Brown’s Brewing Co, 417 River St., Troy on March 13, 2025, from 5 to 8 PM. Family and friends are encouraged to attend to share stories and raise a glass in Moe’s memory. Interment services will be private at Moe’s request.
