Troy - Martha D. Colangelo, 82, died Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Beechwood Apartments in Troy after a prolonged illness.
Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Lawrence S. Dearstyne and Lila Bonesteel Dearstyne and wife of the late Vito J. Colangelo. She had resided in the area nearly all her life and was a graduate of Troy High School.
While primarily a homemaker in later years, Martha spoke fondly of her job as a secretary for the Red Cross in Philadelphia many years ago, and for her husband at Intertech in the Capital District.
She was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church of Wynantskill and a member of the Van Rensselaer Garden Club. She was an avid reader who loved to travel, especially taking cruises in her later years. She enjoyed spending time with her extended family and her many friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynda Halttunen (Steven Leigh), Carlsbad, CA and Suzanne (Thomas) Wagner, Troy; two sons, Daniel (Keri) Colangelo, Salt Lake City, UT and David (Becky) Colangelo, Alexandria, VA and; her grandchildren, David Halttunen, Christian Wagner, Katelyn Palermo and Zachary, Jacob and Arianna Colangelo. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Dearstyne, and a sister, Ann Griswold.
