Poestenkill - Marlene M. (Film) Maddocks passed away at home on June 17, 2022 after a long illness. The daughter of the late Elmer and Mae Hook Film, she was a resident of Brunswick and Poestenkill as well as Bolivia, NC during her life.
Marlene was educated in Brunswick and Troy schools. She was employed by New York Telephone Co/NYNEX Information Resources Co. and retired after 33 years of service as a Manager in the Systems and Technology Department. She was a member of the Directory Alumni and Telephone Pioneers of America.
Marlene enjoyed vacation time in North Carolina and spent winter months there bringing all her companion/rescue animals with her.
Being very active throughout her life she became interested in genealogy and compiled much family history. Marlene also enjoyed gardening, sewing, some quilting and machine embroidery. She was involved with family activities involving those of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marlene became a volunteer shopper with the Clothe A Child Program, participating for numerous years. She also volunteered at local rabies clinics. Testing "Lifeline" equipment at St Mary's Hospital was another volunteer job. When in North Carolina, she worked at Brunswick Family Assistance in the food pantry and as a receptionist. Always ready to help homeless animals, she also volunteered at Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue & Brunswick County Animal Shelter. She was a member of the Brunswick Historical Society, a former member of the American Sewing Guild & the Capital District Computer Enthusiasts of New York.
Thru the years Marlene was an active member of local companion animal rescue & wildlife organizations, serving on the Board of Directors of two. Hundreds of cats and dogs were placed in new homes thru adoption clinics and independent placement. She was truly dedicated and had an unconditional love for animals. She spent decades of her life and countless hours providing foster care of homeless animals, taking them weekly to adoption clinics trying to find the right homes for them. Animals that were unadoptable lived out their lives with her. She cared for neighborhood feral felines and was successful in getting many of them neutered/spayed thru Trap/Neuter/Return programs. Some were relocated to new homes. Caring for homeless animals became part of her daily life.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Emery Maddocks; 3 daughters, Gwen (William) Waters, Brenda (Chris Potter) Swankey, and Shelly (Bruce) Smith; 6 grandchildren, Eric Milanese, Cheryl Despart-Tafur, Nicole Landry, Jacob Connelly, Tessa Duncan and Olivia Smith; 9 great grandchildren, Keira Klipp, Arianna Tafur, Ella Tafur, Hunter Tafur, Emery Milanese, Emily Milanese, Bennett Duncan, Charlee Landry and Rylan Duncan; a sister, Carol Lawless; two brothers, Gary Film and Anson Film, and several nieces and nephews.
