Marilyn (McCarthy) Doring Simmons

Troy - Marilyn McCarthy Doring Simmons of Troy, died Monday, July 25th peacefully at Samaritan Hospital at the age of 93. 

Marilyn, daughter of Jack and Anna Ryan McCarthy was predeceased by husbands Arthur J. Doring Sr. and Clarence Simmons both of Troy. 

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church on Troy's east side. Marilyn earned her RN degree from Union College and Albany Medical Center and spent her adult life raising her 6 children and running the former McCarthy Nursing Home on Pawling Avenue with her parents. After the Nursing home closed in 1976 , Marilyn transitioned to school nursing and worked at the Troy School District where she spent 10 years, ending her working career at School 16. She transitioned to retirement as a snow bird traveling to Stuart Florida each winter and was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.

Marilyn enjoyed boating on Lake George where she spent many summers expertly piloting her beloved cruiser, the Irish Lady. She enjoyed competitive contract bridge, earning master points and found time to consistently raise her golf handicap as a member of the Troy Country Club for over 50 years. 

Marilyn is predeceased by her daughter Deborah Lynn and survived by her 6 children; Lynda Doring, Vernon NY, Art (Leslieann) Doring Jr., Troy NY, John (Pam) Doring, Marble Head MA, Matthew (Sandy) Doring (Gastonia, NC), Marybeth (Tim) Casey of Poestenkill, NY and Kelly Izatt of Jensen Beach, Florida. Marilyn was blessed with 8 grandchildren, Christian (Susanne) Doring, Jason (Rachel) Doring, Michael Doring, Brian (Brittany) Doring, Patrick Doring, Kate Casey, Caroline Casey and Matthew Izatt, as well as 4 great grandchildren, Jack Doring, Winslet Doring, Drew Doring and Sage Doring. Marilyn is also survived by her long time Troy girlfriends, Marylin McCauley Casey, Jane Mackerel Schneider Collins and Marion Sullivan O’Brien.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM. 

Funeral service will be held Friday at 10AM at the funeral home and at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. John  Yanas , Pastor, officiating. 

Interment will be in  St. Mary's Cemetery Troy.
