Brunswick – Marilene “Marty” O. Lewis Hammond, 84, was lifted up on Angels wings to the gates of Heaven on Saturday, March 25, 2023 in the comfort of her home after courageously battling a long illness with her loving family by her side.
Born in Brunswick, NY on June 28, 1938, she was the daughter of the late George and Hazel (Kornetzki) Lewis. Marty was the devoted wife to Henry “Hank” J. Hammond Jr. for over 44 years; who predeceased her in 2000.
Raised in Sycaway, NY she was a graduate of Troy High School in 1956. Along with raising her 3 children, she was a bookkeeper and secretary for her husband’s business for many years. She also worked for Rensselaer County Board of Realtors and Troy Orthopedics; retiring in 2013 from Rensselaer County Soil and Water. She was a communicant of St. Henry’s Church, a member of St. Henry’s Rosary Altar Society, St. Henry’s Bereavement Group, and the Center Brunswick Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Marty was a Certified Swim Instructor for the American Red Cross teaching many children at Snyder’s Lake Beach.
Marty loved to dance and met the Love of her life, Hank, at Carol’s Grove; a popular dance barn. She had a great love for her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling across country in their motor home, snowmobiling, camping, attending NASCAR races and spending Winter’s in Florida. She always had her “wheels” in motion.
Marty will always be remembered for her strength and her Love for so many. She loved her family most and wouldn’t miss attending a game or dance recital for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was their Cheerleader and so proud of them!
Survivors include two daughters, Sherri (Jeff) Wait, Wynantskill, NY and Darlene (Kevin) Gannon, Jacksonville, FL; a son, James (Melissa) Hammond, Mims, FL; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey (Maegan) Wait Jr., Jenelle (Richard) Ellis, Jeanna (George) Czerno, Nadine (TJ) Collard, Kevin Gannon (Cynthia Teresi), Jhenyce Hammond, and Levi Hammond (Savannah Garret); fifteen great grandchildren, Jayce and Jax Wait, McKenna and Kinsley Ellis, Trey, Adalynn and Blayne Fleming, Westyn and Paisley Czerno, Charlotte and Whitney Collard, (Baby Girl Gannon – Arriving in April), Sebastian Weber, Trystian Higgins, Waylon and (Baby Boy Hammond – Arriving in April).
Her siblings, Jacqueline Pine and Shirley Little, her brother-in-law William (Ruth) Hammond and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Jack Lewis, Helen Brust, Hazel Bentley, William Lewis, Arlayne Smith, Mildred Lewis, Milton Lewis, Jean Sliter, their spouses and her sister-in-law, Susan Santierre.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy, NY on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 4–7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held Friday at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. at St. Henry’s Church Old Route 66 Averill Park where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Thomas Holmes.
