Averill Park - Marianne C. Gorchov, 86, died Saturday, December 31, 2022, at St. Peter's Nursing & Rehab Center after a long illness.
Born in Marietta, OH, she was the daughter of the late William Preston Carey and Marianne Brown Carey, and wife and constant companion for over 53 years of The Rev. Michael Gorchov, Rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Troy.
She resided in Bucks County, PA for many years. She loved the forest and nature, especially horses and dogs. In her 20's she worked as a dental assistant, and then she helped a veterinarian rehabilitate injured thoroughbred horses. Starting in 1970 she began her counseling career. First, at the Old Bucks County Prison in Doylestown, PA, and then at various drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities. Later, she worked in a community mental health center. She earned her Masters in Psychology, and operated a successful private counseling practice for a decade. Her last position was as Director of Community Services, and Commissioner of Mental Health, for Hamilton County, NY. Marianne retired in 2000, and then devoted much of her time to Christian Ministry along with her husband, Michael. She served on various diocesan committees and in ministries.
She had long-standing relationships with Therapy Dogs International, Northumbria Celtic Christian Community, Holy Cross Monastery (West Park), and St. Paul's Church, Troy.
Marianne enjoyed working in fiber arts, especially weaving and knitting. She tried over and over to learn to play the guitar and Celtic harp. She loved music and was content strumming chords and humming to hymns and folk-songs. Marianne loved having dogs around her all the time. Earlier in her life she kept German and Belgian shepherds, and later settled on American Field Spaniels for their easy and kind disposition. She very much enjoyed the company and support of her fellow Field Spaniel friends, Kris, Lee, Maxine, Sally, and Tina.
Survivors in addition to her husband include her son, William Enslin, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Cheryl, grandson, Timothy Enslin, and great-granddaughters, Madison and Olivia, her grandson, Scott Enslin, her daughter, Laurianne Moran, and son-in-law, Donald Moran, and grandsons, Caelen and Dylan, and her best friend and cousin, Rebecca. She was predeceased by her daughter, Melissa Lea Enslin.
