Marguerite Djehizian Obituary

Latham - Marguerite Djehizian of Latham, NY passed away on the morning of June 7th at Shaker Place with her niece Karen at her bedside. She was born in Marseille, France in 1930 as one of four sisters who remained extremely close throughout their lives. Through her early years growing up with an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, she always excelled academically, becoming fluent in four languages and conversant in several others. She was a graduate of  Université d'Aix in Provence. In the 1950s, Marguerite moved to New York City to be closer to her sisters who had moved to Troy. She soon accepted a position with Pan American Airways where she worked for almost 35 years and made many wonderful friends including Dorothy (Dee), Lucia and Sylvia. In her leisure time, she traveled the world with her sister Mireille visiting dozens of countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. Wherever she went, she embraced the local art and culture, avoiding the standard tours to experience what life was like for residents (with the exception that she always preferred to stay at the best hotels). She was a devoted aunt and grand aunt who could always be counted on for timely advice, carefully selected birthday and holiday gifts, and specially prepared, favored French meals.

She was predeceased by her parents, Agop and Aznif  Djehizian; her sister, Rosine Kazanjian and her husband Leo; and her sister, Mireille Djehizian. She is survived by her sister, Elisabeth Chamberlain; nephews and nieces, Robert, Karen, Leo, Sabrina, Jean-Claude, Christian and Alain and their families; cousins Toros Shamlian, Dolly Shamlian and family as well as cousins in France and Florida.

The family extends appreciation to Shaker Place Rehab and Samaritan Hospital for their kind and attentive care. A grave side service will be held for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Marguerite Djehizian can be made to St. Peter’s Armenian Church, PO Box 196, Watervliet, NY 12189 or the Regional Food Bank NENY 965 Albany Shaker Rd, Latham, NY 12110.
