Lyman F. Ashley

West Sand Lake - Lyman F. Ashley, died Sunday, December 31, 2023, at Samaritan Hospital on his 89th birthday, after a long illness.

Born and raised in Londonderry, VT, he was son of the late Claude Ashley and Stella Williams Ashley and husband of the late Iona Hill Ashley and Louise Merchant Ashley. He had resided in West Sand Lake for over 66 years.  .

Lyman was retired from Mobil Oil in the Albany Plant as a member of the Tanker Rollover Team, Plant Maintenance and Fire Chief.

After he retired, he worked part time for the Town of Sand Lake Building Inspectors and was on the Elmwood Cemetery Board of Trustees. He was a Charter member of Sand Lake Ambulance and active and dedicated to the West Sand Lake Volunteer Fire Department where he served for over 66 years as chief and various other positions. A member of the NYS Association of Fire Chiefs and FASNY, and Ski Patrol for many years.     

He was predeceased by three sons, Kenneth L., John C., and Steven F., Ashley. Survivors include a son, Gary Ashley, (Terri) West Sand Lake;  his several grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and his many Brothers and Sisters. Stepchildren, Mary E. (Sandee) Hug, FL, A. Donald Harrat, Troy, J. Diane Crowley, White River Junction, VT, Richard R. (Cindy) Harrat, West Sand Lake and Barbara J. Harrat   

Relatives and friends may call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 4392NY150 West Sand Lake on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 4-7 PM.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, at 10 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Trygve Tomlinson, officiating. Family and friends are welcome back to West Sand Lake Fire Hall for soup, sandwich's and coffee

Interment will be in  Elmwood Cemetery West Sand Lake.
